The nature is the biggest artist on the Earth. Its enormous power has created organisms and plants in various shapes. The scientists recently found a prickly sea worm with its head attached to its rear. The research team said there are very few creatures like this. The scientific name of this big prawn looking creature is hallucigenia sparsa. It was one of most common animal in the world once upon a time.
The creature couldn’t survive the game of evolution and went extinct. Its unique anatomy is fascinating for scientists. The animal has very simple looking eyes surrounded with sharp needle like teeth structure which confuses the way face has been structured. University of Cambridge researcher Martin Smith said that discovery of head is important outcome but more detailed study would be conducted now. He leads the team of researchers on this matter.
The creature is around 3.5 centimeter long and used to thrive in the seas 505 million years ago. This is the period of Cambrian explosion. The period is known for some of the earliest fossil records. Researchers wrote that the halucigenia walks on its spikes with the support of waving tentacles located on the back, in 1970s research paper.
But scientists got it wrong that time as they had the specimen upside down also there was a confusion between front and back. The tail of the creature has big dark balloon and many people confused it with head. The analysis by electron microscope revealed the exact location of eyes and teeth located opposite to the big dark balloon.
